Clive Branson's
Fishing Guide Wales

Flintshire

Take a closer look at North Wales - you might be surprised at what you find. The beautiful region situated between Chester to the east and Gwynedd to the west, is incredibly diverse and quintessentially Welsh. It has a flavour all of its own. For those who simply want to slow down and unwind, there are fine pubs and restaurants, pretty country villages and an impressive array of castles and historic houses to explore. The more energetic know the 'Borderlands' as unsurpassed walking country, together with its fair share of rivers to fish, with trout and coarse fish at scores of lake fisheries. Historical Flintshire (known as the Gateway to Wales) is a county of market towns. There is good sea fishing in the Dee estuary, which a haven for wildlife. The Dee itself can be fished between Queensferry and Chester, coarse and game. For game anglers, the Alyn can be fished on two beats. Flintshire has a good mix of coarse and game fishing venues

Wales
and the Borders

By popular demand from visiting anglers I have been asked on many occasions
“Where best to go fishing including best facilities such as refreshments, toilets, disable access etc”
Therefore I have introduced for each venue within the guide my personal
1-5 star rating *****.
Including my personal views, helping anglers decide where best to experience
this great sport of ours.
I recommend that you phone first and check details before setting out. You will need a valid Environment Agency rod licence to fish at any venue listed

The Dee estuary is very important to anglers. When gales and heavy seas stop angling on the open beaches, the good old Dee estuary still offers sheltered fishing. Dee venues also offer fish to close in casters and is the place we all take the kids to introduce them to fishing where they can fish with a small rod close in for flounder and plaice. The Dee is the closest sea angling venue for people travelling from the northwes. The Dee is also a major run for salmon, sea trout and bass. It would be a disaster if we allow this important estuary to be dried up of fish because of just 2 trawlers being allowed to fish the narrow channel. Anglers have noticed a significant drop in catches since these trawlers started operating and this year the Dee hasn't produced the cod catches it did in previous years, including last year. The Dee is the closest sea angling venue for people travelling from the northwest.
